There was a surprise guest in the audience for tonight's finale of the MTV reality competition Rock the Cradle -- Britney Spears!

The singer showed up in the audience of tonight's show,which aired at 10 PM ET/PT on the cable network.

Brit's former manager and current friend/advisor, Larry Rudolph, happens to be an executive producer on the show as well as the "Overall Performance Judge" (There are four judges in all). So could this be a sign of an even stronger reconciliation between the two?

Britney was also likely cheering on tonight's three finalists: Dee Snider's son, Jess Blaze Snider; Olivia Newton-John's daughter Chloe Lattanzi, and Kenny Loggin's son, Crosby Loggins.

BRITNEY SPEARS is heading for a head to head album battle with pop’s ultimate fallen diva – WHITNEY HOUSTON.

The clash was set up because Brit has impressed label chiefs so much with her new material.

Brit has spent the past two years shaving her bonce, flashing her undercarriage, divorcing her husband and crashing cars — but finally seems to have got her act together.

After the poor reception for her most recent album Blackout, label bosses thought their wayward artist had blown it.

But impressive demos from recent studio work reignited their faith and they are confident she can crush ageing Whitney in a titanic Christmas LP scrap.

A label source said: “Britney has been on fire in the studio of late.

“During recording sessions for the last album she was consumed by her chaotic private life.

“But she is determined to make a triumphant comeback. Top brass have been amazed by the quality of tracks they’ve heard.

"Whitney is set for another relaunch at the same time later in the year. They’re determined Brit will come out on top.”

At least Brit is listening to decent music. She looked her best for months when snapped leaving an LA gym clutching a copy of RADIOHEAD’s In Rainbows this week.

Drugs
Houston appears to have finally conquered her drugs problems and has roped in some of the urban scene’s heaviest hitters for her return.

WILL.I.AM, R. KELLY and JOHN LEGEND have penned tracks and her next single will be a collaboration with AKON.

She received a cool £1million for playing charity event the Cauldwell Children Legends Ball in London’s Battersea last night.

But her last album of original material, in 2002, sank without trace and pop has moved on since her Eighties heyday with >LEONA LEWIS now wearing her crown.

Christmas 2008 could be all about Brit though and I’m lumping on a full-scale Britney comeback...

Just a few short months ago, everyone was giving up on pop Queen Britney Spears. Her life was seemingly in tatters - and many people thought she was finished.

But now, she's showing her detractors and supporters alike that she got a lot of fight in her. From a hit song, a new workout regimen, her appearance on a popular TV sitcom, and spending time with her family, Spears has turned what was a big negative into a new beginning.

Now, it's not over for Britney yet. She still has custody issues to work out with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline ... her father, Jamie Spears, is still in charge of her affairs, and she likely needs ongoing counseling.

However, even with those issues, Britney Spears has battled demons that would have caused most normal people to crumble!

But did we expect anything less from this young woman? After all, you don't rise to fame and fortune at such a young age without having a strong will and a positive outlook on life, no matter what problems you might be facing.

Let's take a look at a few of the mountains Britney has climbed recently:

Hit song. Shortly after her troubles started, Britney was quick to release "Piece of Me," a scathing statement about being chased by the paparazzi. The song went Platinum, reached No. 1 on dance charts around the world, and stayed on the charts for several months. The video has had over 40 million views - and counting - on YouTube.

TV appearance. Many people thought this would be the last thing we'd see out of Britney for many years. Her critics like to point to her MTV Awards performance as a low point in her career, and it may well have been. But just because someone reaches a low point, doesn't mean they can't rise up, and Britney did with her appearance on the hit TV show, How I Met Your Mother. Her performance was so well received that Spears was asked back for a second appearance. In fact, her first performance increased viewers by over one million!

Family ties. Britney's been reconnecting with her family recently, which is perhaps the most important thing a person in her position can do. After all, in a time of instability, who else is going to love and support you like your family? She has been photographed by the ever present paparazzi relaxing with her family, she's returning to her hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana, and is reportedly planning Jamie Lynn Spears' (her sister) baby shower.

Is Britney back? Well, it's too early to tell for sure, but so far the Queen of Pop has been taking all the right steps on the road back to her rightful place atop the charts. Certainly, it would be a wonderful thing to see her on stage singing, dancing and performing again very soon.

At the rate she's been conquering her mountains, it looks like 2008 could be a very good year for Britney. Let's all hope so.

With Britney Spears embroiled in a seemingly neverending custody battle and 17-year-old sis Jamie Lynn Spears expecting her first child very soon, it's hard to imagine a family under more scrutiny these days than the Spears clan.

But in spite of all the outside pressure on them, it was nothing but good times for the Spears sisters when they reunited on May 2 for the Zoey 101 star's wedding shower.

"It was wonderful to be able to spend time with her and just be girls again," Jamie Lynn told OK! in an exclusive interview about seeing her sister for the first time in months. "We painted our nails and did stupid stuff."

Even better, explains Jamie Lynn, was that she was able to have some one-on-one time with Brit: "To be able to be in the privacy of our own home and just be sisters again was wonderful."

Mother-of-two Britney even shared some words of wisdom with her pregnant sibling. "She told me, 'There are going to be some long nights, but it is completely worth it,'" Jamie Lynn recalls to OK!.

As for whether or not the pop superstar will make it back home to Louisiana when Jamie Lynn has the baby, the teen star tells OK!, "Nothing is set in stone, but that would be wonderful. I'd love to have her here for that, but you can't plan that far ahead."

Even if Brit isn't there in person for her younger sister, the two are in almost-constant contact, says Jamie Lynn.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Jamie Lynn Spears reunited with her elder sister Britney, for the first time in months, this past weekend in Kentwood Louisiana.

Britney flew out to be a part of her 17-year-old sister’s baby shower (put together by mom, Lynne), and according to Jamie Lynn, who spoke to OK! magazine exclusively, their reunion was joyous.

“It was wonderful to be able to spend time with her and just be girls again,” Jamie Lynn told OK! “We painted our nails and did stupid stuff, and we had our private time too. To be able to be in the privacy of our own home and just be sisters again was wonderful.”

Britney and her father, Jamie Spears, who is currently co-conservator of the pop star, flew out on a private jet over the weekend. When the two sisters saw each other for the first time in several months, they embraced immediately.

“She just ran up,” Jamie Lynn said. “She obviously couldn’t pick me up. We gave each other a big hug. It was a really good feeling.”

So what did they say to each other?

“I love you. I’ve missed you. It’s so good to see you,” Jamie Lynn told OK!

And since it was a shower, Britney made sure to give Jamie Lynn advice on her impending arrival – a girl due in June.

“She said, ‘There are going to be some long nights, but it is completely worth it,’” Jamie Lynn recounted.

Though they haven’t seen each other in a while, they have been keeping in touch.

“I’m a texter. I don’t like talking on the phone. That’s not my thing,” Jamie Lynn said “Britney is a texter too.”

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline have just entered the courtroom and their case is about to begin.

Brit walked in with her hands clasped in front of her, looking down. Someone told her she looked good and Brit just smiled back. According to all accounts, "Brit looks good."

Stay tuned ...

UPDATE 9:42 AM PT -- Kevin and Britney were both sworn into court. A motion to close the court was granted -- so everyone was kicked out. FYI -- Elliot Mintz, K-Fed's attorney's rep, got the boot too.

UPDATE 10:05 AM PT -- Britney is looking extremely well put-together, sitting in the second to last row, wearing a silk brown dress with white polka dots underneath a sweater.

Kevin looked calm as he was sworn in, but our girl Britney is reportedly a bit nervous, When asked to state her name, she responded with just "Britney"! The judge then said "we need your full name, please", and Britney obliged. The courtroom has been cleared of press because the next part of the proceedings will review and address sensitive matters.

UPDATE 10:25 AM PT -- Court has taken a recess and Brit is out in the hall looking very upset. Our spy says that while Britney isn't actually crying in the hallway -- but it looks like she might have been crying in court.

Jamie & Lynne Spears are still in the courtroom with Britney's attorney, as is K-Fed and all his people.

UPDATE 10:28 AM PT -- She's back in court.

UPDATE 10:38 AM PT -- Britney is back out of the courtroom, smiling and holding hands with Blair Berk.

The chemistry between Madonna and Justin Timberlake in the steamy video for her new single “4 Minutes” seems to last and last.

After her 38-minute show last week at Roseland, where Timberlake joined her for that song, the two headed to the Box for Steven Klein’s birthday party, where their coziness was apparent to all.

They sat up front, Madonna flanked by Klein and Timberlake, watching the nightclub’s usual naughtiness; the nude performer who “birthed” a Russian nesting doll seemed to especially affect Timberlake, who gave the feat a standing ovation.

When the band played Britney Spears’s “Gimme More” and asked the crowd to shout the “more!” part, both Madge and J.T. played along. But when a photographer tried to shoot them together, Timberlake signaled to his bodyguard, who shined a flashlight at the camera, making a photo impossible.

Later, the VIP area became a dance floor and they boogied together, representatives of the pop superrace.

With her little sis about to pop, Britney Spears has her sights set on home this weekend.

Sources on the scene tell E! News the "Toxic" singer---with dad Jamie vigilantly in tow---is back in Louisiana today for Jamie Lynn's baby shower, which is taking place Saturday at Lynne Spear's home in Kentwood.

Britney is said to be bunking at mom's house, where security personnel have set up shop and police are blocking entrance to their street.

This is Brit's first trip back to her hometown since last fall, when she became embroiled in her current—and, can you believe it, increasingly less bizarre—custody battle.

Which, as it's so wont to do, will require Britney's presence back in Los Angeles on Tuesday, when she's expected to attend the latest custody hearing in this ongoing process, this one to address the results of a court-ordered 730 psych evaluation.

E! News caught up with Kevin Federline legal eagle Mark Vincent Kaplan last night and he filled us in on what to expect in Britney's near custodial future.

First off, while he presumed Federline would attend, Kaplan said he didn't know for certain whether K-Fed's ex-missus would put in an appearance at Tuesday's hearing, what would be her first since she circled the courthouse in February without actually going in.

"She's not required to be there—neither party is required to be there," Kaplan explained. "I think that when you're asking the court to consider your custodial position it has to look like it's important enough for you to be there. And I think she gets that, I think Jamie Spears gets that, and I would anticipate that they would act consistently with that. Especially if this is something that is a new era if you will."

In the meantime, the attorney continues to praise Jamie Spears' involvement in his daughter's and grandkids' life, noting everything that's been "not happening" since Britney's monitored-visitation privileges were restored in late February.

"Consistency over time is what's important, and structure, stability," he said. "It appears now that at least for the past couple of months that we have that."

"Boredom from a custodial standpoint is a good thing. Not be sensational, not being in the public eye, that's a good thing. And, certainly since the conservatorship in February, that looks like that’s the status quo there."

"The fact that the paparazzi onslaught in no way threatens the safety of Britney and the kids, I think that's a really positive thing," Kaplan continued. "That imposes a danger to the children when she is not driving and the daily 24-hour vigil of the media seems to have been something that is of a bygone era."

For his part, Federline is feeling much more comfortable about the idea of sharing parenting duties on a more consistent basis with Britney, Kaplan said; but, he added, he still doesn't see a 50/50 split or overnight visits in the immediate future.

Federline's going to try to make sure that Sean Preston and Jayden James get to spend Mother's Day with the lady of the hour, Kaplan said. But, other than that, the longevity of their current arrangement remains up in the air.

"Is two months or three months a sufficient amount of time? Probably not, [but] it's certainly a good start. I think that before there would be a radical change in the structure now, there should be a gradual ramping up to increase time and if that goes well...and it's not a question of whether it goes well for Kevin or if it goes well for mom, but it's a question of whether it goes well for the minor children."

Britney Spears is home again: The pop star left California on Friday and returned to her hometown of Kentwood, La. – her first trip back since before her hospitalization and custody battles of the past year, a source tells PEOPLE.

Also in town is Spears's father, Jamie, who is the co-conservator of his daughter's affairs.

The singer's arrival in her home state comes amid rumors of a baby shower over the weekend for her 17-year-old sister Jamie Lynn, who announced her pregnancy in December.

Spears, 26, last visited Kentwood in early 2007 for her aunt's funeral.

From blonde to black to bald, Britney Spears' hair has seen it all. And today the pop idol's hairstylist, Kim Vo, revealed to OK! that he has just given the superstar a whole new look.

Kim, who will also be a judge on the next season of the Bravo reality show Shear Genius, has been the one responsible for Britney's hair for quite some time — he even did her coif for her famous guest-starring gig on How I Met Your Mother. And with Brit-Brit confirmed to make another appearance as Abby the receptionist, he's revamped her look once more.

"Last time we gave her that simple look," Kim explains. "Now it's geek-to-chic. We're going to keep up that glamorous look... We've been adding a lot of blonde pieces."

And while Britney has been known to alter her 'do on a whim, Kim said that this time the hit CBS show is actually behind the style change.

"I was honestly shocked she did it again," Kim says about Brit's decision to revisit the role on HIMYM. "She had a great time. I'd love to see her break into something else. I think people want her to make it back."

As how Britney, whom Kim calls "truly a sweet soul," he admits that "she's very vulnerable." On the bright side, he also says that she is "calm, serene, peaceful" at home and cooks a great chicken!

"Her first focus is the kids," he adds. "But like any 26-year-old, she's gotta work. You'll go crazy if you stay home all day!"

Ezekiel: Honestly, I know me personally, I’ve wanted to work with Britney Spears forever to be honest. So honestly, I don’t think for any of us it was hard.

I think we all wanted to work with Britney and we were motivated to give her something that was great that was going to help her project become a great project to come back with.

J.Que: Exactly. And also when we went in to create the record – and stop me if I’m wrong in this one, Zeke – I think the one thing we were all trying to make sure is that we didn’t touch on anything that was really dealing with all the stuff that she was dealing with.

Just something that all things are equal and all things are great. Some things you really just like to hear her talking about. We went in and sat down to create a record for the Britney Spears that we know and love.

Ezekiel: That we know and love, exactly. We didn’t want to touch any of that personal stuff. We really thought it was supposed to be the third single but now we’re hearing that it’s the definite fourth single so we’re excited.

J.Que: I definitely think they need to go ahead and put it out.

Ezekiel: That was a fun song to work on though.

J.Que: When I tell you she was the best – minus she got there a little late. She did show up a little late. But when she showed up, I think it caught both of us off guard ‘cause Zeke and I flew to New York to record the record on this.

And I think it caught both of us off guard because, when I tell you when she walked in the booth she stayed in the booth until the sun came up.

Ezekiel: Yeah she was there. She almost outlasted me, I don’t know.

J. Que: It was absolutely nuts, and she took directions very well. I agree like I don’t know what I was expecting because we went in to cut that record the day after she filed divorce from Kevin.

Ezekiel: Right.

J.Que: So we were expecting all kind of nonsense and she was super professional and when she got in the booth, she was super-efficient.

When Britney Spears’ father, Jamie, was named her co-conservator on February 1, he took over her financial affairs. But after going through her books, Jamie must have learned just how much of a toll Britney’s crazy behavior, which started in February 2007 when she shaved her head, has had on her bank account — she’s lost nearly $61 million. “It’s staggering how much money has been used up,” a family friend says.



In addition to the enormous tab for legal bills, rehab and psychiatric care, Britney’s inability to work has cost her a fortune. “By not touring for her last album [Blackout], she lost out on $50 million,” estimates Robert Bianchi, an LA-based CPA who isn’t an accountant for Britney. Jamie hired his own accountants to sort out the money mess and bring an end to the 26-year-old’s excessive spending. “It’s been quite a challenge getting things under control,” the insider says. Luckily, as Britney’s mental health improves, so does her bottom line. “She’s spending about a fifth of what she used to,” the insider adds.
